Visiting Cayo Santiago

Cayo Santiago is a research facility dedicated to investigations of free-ranging rhesus macaques. It is not open to tourists. Visits are primarily limited to Investigators, but others are permitted entry on a case by case basis. If interested in visiting Cayo Santiago, you must first consult with Mr. James Ayala (jeayala@rcm.upr.edu), Colony Manager of Cayo Santiago or Dr. Adaris Mas Rivera (amas@rcm.upr.edu), Resident Scientist of Cayo Santiago. Requests will be processed by the CPRC Director.

All visitors must:

  1. Provide certification of a negative TB Test within 6 months prior to a visit

  2. Provide contact information

  3. Read the Rules of Cayo Santiago

  4. Read Animal Bites, Scratches, and Injuries

  5. Sign a Waiver and Assumption of Risk form and Waiver and Assumption of Risk-Herpes B

  6. Sign the Guest Book on Cayo Santiago
